Neil Thompson

Training Professional

Neil was born and raised in England and entered the golf business as a professional in 1993, teaching his first lesson that same year. He became a Class A member of the Great Britain and Ireland PGA in 1999, then moved to the United States and earned Class A membership in the PGA of America in 2000. He has been teaching golf lessons in the Birmingham area since coming to America and establishing the Thompson Golf Academy in 2010. Neil has earned several awards from our PGA Section including Teacher of the Year (2011), Player Development Award (2014), Youth Player Development Award (2017), and Alabama Chapter Teacher of the Year (2009, 2022). He is also an accomplished player having played in the Senior PGA Championship twice and the Senior Open Championship; and has been the Alabama-NW Florida PGA Senior Player of the Year in 2020 and 2022. Neil is on the forefront of technology and uses it during lessons. He owns Trackman and GC Quad launch monitors, K-Vest 3D motion capture system, as well as balance and force plates. He is also a qualified Level 3 TPI instructor. He is married to his wife, Christy and has three young children, Remy, Ava, and Lexi.
